Upstroke is made by Brian Eyster (“I”). This policy explains what the app collects and why.
Your practice data stays on your device
Your sessions, items, notes, photos and recordings are stored only on your phone. I cannot see them. There are no accounts, and nothing is synced to a server.
Permissions
The app asks for these only when you use the feature that needs them:
- Microphone: to record audio you choose to save.
- Camera and photos: to add a picture of a chart or a session.
- Notifications: to remind you about practice. These are scheduled on your device.
Recordings and photos never leave your device unless you share them yourself.
What is sent to me
The app sends anonymous usage events to PostHog and crash reports to Sentry. These include a random ID, your device model, OS version and app version. PostHog also records an approximate location, down to your city, based on your IP address. Neither receives your notes, photos or recordings.
I use this data only to fix bugs and improve the app. I do not sell it, use it for ads, or track you across apps.
Retention and deletion
Deleting the app deletes all your practice data. Usage and crash data is kept for up to one year. To ask for it to be deleted, email me.
Children
Upstroke is not directed at children under 13.
Changes
If this policy changes, I will update the date above.
